Brave little Buddy

So as you may or may not know, little Coley had to have surgery last Thursday morning. It wasn't anything MAJOR but something that needed to be done and that we had just been putting off. Well, we decided it was time and made the pre visit and scheduled the time and all went well! I know that there are plenty of mothers and children out there that go through much much worse things than a same day surgery but for some reason I was VERY nervous and kind of emotional! He was honestly such a little trooper which made it sooo much easier on us. Daws came with us cuz he wanted to be his brothers helper and retrect (protect) him.

I had to take a little picture of his hospital jammies from every angle cuz he just hated them! He kept saying "I don't want to wear this stuff!" And then he got all annoyed when we put it on and said, "It's for gewls.. NOT BOYS!" I thought he looked cute in it though....

He absolutely hated the socks the most. They were kinda odd with the traction on both sides and BIG enough for Lane or I to wear them... but he kept them on.

By the end of it he was modeling it for us cuz we were laughing so hard at his annoyance he was having about wearing such a stupid thing.

In the waiting room we waited, and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited.....

So we decided to color and drive the cars and play with the kitchen set and watch the movie they had going and play with the balls and play with a stroller and 2 little dolls and build things with rubber blocks. And THEN.....

The Doc and staff arrived! This is actually his anesthesiologist and the 2 cutest nurses ever. They were so great to help him feel cozy and let his brother be a part of everything. I thought it was cute that they pull them down the hall to and from surgery in these wagons. Makes it less intimidating for them I think. Daws thought that this hospital experience was FUN!

Here is Dawson in the recovery room waiting patiently for Cole to wake up. He asked every few minutes, "Ask the nurse if he is ok." So they gave both boys these little dolls (in the waiting room) to color faces on and make them special. So Daws was quite proud of his. Not sure if those spikes are eyebrows or a spikey hawk going on with his doll. Coles just had 2 circles for eyes and a line for a mouth.

It took him a good 40 minutes to wake up after surgery. The nurse said he was his best patient of the day! (i realized it was because he was the only one that slept the whole time of recovery)

Here is Dawson still patiently waiting for his little buddy to wake up so he could talk his ear off like he usually does. He was pumped about his Root beer slushie the cute nurse gave him.

"Mom! He is ALIVE!" and them me SHHH don't freak him out! Daws instantly jumped up in his bed and told him about everything that happened the 3 hours he had missed. They gave him apple juice to make sure he could keep it down since he hadn't eaten anything ALL day! We got there at 7:30am and he was ready to roll about 2pm.

Just a little brotherly bonding time before we released. He looks so loopy and exhausted! (both of them do actually)

And then the grand exit in nothing but the "Radio Flyer" What a great hospital and wonderful staff Primary Children's Hospital has.
He had a VERY tired rest of the day and kinda floppy BUT he is back in action and hasn't missed a beat since! I am so proud of my little buddy and I am glad it all went so well!
(if you are wondering what surgery he had... it was a hypospadias... look it up.)
actually don't look it up.... you will see some porn!!! SORRY!

When I first saw the jammies, I thought maybe they were a gift from the Japan. Too funny, he wasn't too fond of them.

Good job Coley for being so brave! And Dawson you such a great retrector

You made me tear up. I remember going there with my neice Kaysha. I saw all these sick little kids and worried moms and I just cried and I didn't even have a kiddo going through anything! I am so glad all went well. I hope his recovery goes well too! You are one tough chick!!

I loved the comments Audge for each picture. I love that he HATED the socks...I don't blame him and his right those PJs are for girls. Please they don't anything more masculine for los chicos? Like a T-Rex or dragon? Speaking of which I'm pleased to see Daws put a fo-hawk on his doll. That's awesome. Cole you trooper you!! Dawson you were the first born for a reason and that is to be the best big brother EVER!!
Love, Kellie (my computer is being lame)

Audrey,

I looked it up and OMGoodnes...you should have put a disclaimer on your website..because I got an eyeful of some man's genitial...

but aside from that...I'm glad it went well and he's doing well. When Haddi was 2 she had to have surgery also and reading your post brought memories of that. It's a hard thing to put your kids thru that.

Audree,
I do not envy you...when Karlee had to have her tumor surgery at 3 days old...it was so hard...maybe I was just still emotional from having given birth 3 days earlier...but it was still one of the worst things! Oh yeah, Spencer had to have tear duct surgery too...that wasn't as bad, but anytime they aren't feeling well it makes your heart hurt!Anyways, give that sweet boy a big high five. And if I could I would give you a big hug for being such a great mom!! Thanks for keeping us in the loop!

What do you mean the jammies were from Japan? How do you know they weren't from South Africa? I am offended......:)

I should have read the comments before I looked up the surgery because I too got a giant genitalia picture. I'm glad everything went well. I freaked out when Sterling had to have tubes in his ears. It is sooo scary to have these little guys put under.

Lane, its a good thing they aren't from South Africa... the African boys often run around naked :)

And, I meant to say they were a gift from the missionary grandparents. I think they are cute, but must agree they look a little girly.

Congrats to Cole on being normal now. I don't need to look up what he had...I have a pretty good idea of what it is and plus I'm in the library right now using the computer because our internet is not working at my house...and I don't really need to be arrested right now for looking at nudy pictures. Good job Cole though, and way to be a good big brother to Dawson!

Cole is sure a tough little guy! Carter has been asking me what was wrong with Cole, so now I will see if I can remember that word to tell him. I think I've already forgot what that H word is again?? I am glad he is back in action and ready to go!

I'm glad it all went well and everyone is back on track. Did you get to keep the dolls? Would they scare you at night?

I'm glad it's doing well. I had to laugh at the socks, we recently got a batch at our hospital with traction on both sides too. It was almost as funny as when we got a batch of the mesh panties without leg holes :-)

Good Job! That was a family affair. Was Lane in on it too? Cole was brave, Audrey was sort of brave and Dawson did his part as big brother like a pro. Congratulstions to all.
